Today, we are excited to announce that Madrona is leading Pulumi’s Series C round alongside investors NEA, Tola Capital, and Strike Capital. Pulumi was a Day 1 investment for Madrona when we invested in Joe Duffy and Eric Rudder and led their seed round. Pulumi continues to make phenomenal progress both with its open-source and commercial offerings, enabling developers to be productive in a cloud-native world. Our strong belief in its potential drove us to double down on our investment in Pulumi.
Pulumi is an infrastructure-as-code (IaC) platform offering both open-source and commercial services for creating, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure. Its versatility spans traditional components like virtual machines, networks, and databases, as well as more modern architectural paradigms such as containers, Kubernetes clusters, and serverless functions. Pulumi stands out by supporting over 70 public, private, and hybrid cloud service providers and has a couple of thousand customers across every industry, including many Fortune 5000 customers.
Madrona is leading the Series C round because we are confident Pulumi is poised for even greater success. Pulumi’s IaC product for cloud-native engineering is consistently outperforming competitors. We also see significant growth opportunities within Pulumi’s expanding open-source customer base. The recent introduction of Pulumi Insights, a generative AI solution that augments infrastructure as code with advanced search, analytics, and AI, empowers users to gain unique insights into their cloud usage and significantly enhances engineering productivity. The enthusiastic response from developers to Pulumi’s product launches further attests to its momentum. Below, we highlight a few reasons we’re excited to continue this partnership:
- Thriving Infrastructure as Code Market: Pulumi operates in a large and growing IaC market that only continues to expand. While Pulumi has already established itself as the leading product in this sector, we believe it has substantial room for further market penetration as it takes share from competitors and rolls out new products.
- Growing Community Support and Adoption: Since its inception, Pulumi has been THE leading open-source IaC provider with over 130+ built-in integrations and has a developer community of over 3,400 contributors growing exponentially. The team’s developer ethos is a strong testament to the community love so far, and we believe we are just getting started.
- Exceptional Customer Satisfaction: Pulumi boasts a substantial customer base, including Fortune 5000 accounts. They also see continuous growth in open-source contributors. The developer community has expressed positive feedback, praising Pulumi for its user-friendly interface, automation capabilities, productivity enhancements, accelerated time to market, and product robustness.
- Best-in-Class Product: Pulumi’s competitive advantage stems from its cloud-native approach and support for users’ preferred programming languages. This eliminates the need for users to grapple with the complexities of a separate domain-specific language (DSL). Additionally, Pulumi allows for more streamlined testing and deployment, enabling users to test their code with unit tests and seamlessly deliver it through CI/CD pipelines for validation and deployment to any cloud environment.
- Expanding Horizons: Pulumi recently introduced Pulumi Insights, an innovative generative AI offering that enriches infrastructure as code with advanced search, analytics, and AI functionalities. This empowers users to gain insights into their cloud usage, optimize engineering operations, and leverage AI-driven infrastructure creation based on usage patterns. The team continues to lead the IaC industry by innovating and expanding in clear workflow adjacencies.
We could not be more excited to deepen our partnership with Pulumi and continue the journey with Joe, Eric, and the entire Pulumi team. We look forward to witnessing and supporting their continued growth and success in the years to come.
